As Matthew Vadum persuasively documents in Team Jihad: How Sharia-Supremacists Collaborate with Leftists to Destroy the United States, the jihadists’ success in this regard is not entirely attributable to the seductiveness of their information and influence operations. They owe much to the decades-long march of cultural Marxism through the key pillars of American society: academia, faith communities, government (especially national security), law enforcement, and media. After all, it was communist, leftist, and progressive operatives who successfully promoted the notion that the Judeo-Christian principles laid down by the Founding Fathers were, at best, outmoded and, at worst, a force for ill in the world. In this shared antipathy to the traditional religious values that inspired and nurtured Western civilization, Islam and the left found grounds to make common cause: They could set aside their own divergent ideologies and desired end states for the time being and join forces to bring down America. The emergence of the contemporary Red-Green axis coincided with – and contributed to – the undoing of a counterintelligence mindset in official U.S. circles. Effectively neutralized was any appreciation of the threat posed by influence operations and, in particular, their perpetrators inside the United States. Sociology professor Don Gibson retires after 30-plus-year career
The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg has announced the retirement of Donald E. Gibson, PhD, professor of Sociology. Gibson’s career spanned more than 30 years and is highlighted by his dedication to making students aware of the importance of an informed citizenship by exploring power, both social and economic, and its effect on US economic problems.
Gibson, a resident of Greensburg, started teaching at Pitt-Greensburg in 1981 as an assistant professor of Sociology. He advanced to associate professor in 1987, and then full professor in 1997. He served as chairperson of the Behavioral Sciences Division from 2003 through 2005. Active with the American Democracy Project, a multi-campus initiative that focused on higher education’s role in preparing the next generation of informed, engaged citizens for our democracy, he also played a part in developing Pitt-Greensburg’s course on American society.
“A devoted teacher and scholar, Dr. Gibson’s scholarship in an impressively wide range of important social areas—including implications of the development of the hospice movement, changes in the economy and shifts in social values, mass media, and environmentalism—demonstrated to his students the power of research to inform decisions on important policy questions,” said Sharon P. Smith, PhD, president of Pitt-Greensburg.
Gibson’s teaching areas included technology and social change, medical sociology, mass media, white collar crime, and American society. His research areas ranged from mass media, and the President’s Commission on the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy, to the changes in the US economy since the 1960s and the relationship of these changes to shifts in social values and public policy.
A prolific writer, his first book was published in 1994, “Battling Wall Street: The Kennedy Presidency” (reissued by Progressive Press, 2014), which challenges conventional wisdom and asserts that Kennedy was always on the side of economic, political, and social progress. Gibson also authored “The Kennedy Assassination Cover-up” (Kroshka/NOVA Science Publishers 1999), described as “an effectively researched and probing analysis of America’s most important solved murder.” One reviewer credits Gibson with writing three of the most important books available on the politics of modern times, listing Gibson’s third book “Environmentalism: Ideology and Power” (NOVA Science Publishers, 2002) with the first two Kennedy books.
A fourth book, “Communication, Power and Media” (NOVA Science Publishers, 2004) explores how the media has been used to control and manipulate people rather than as a means to inform and inspire people. His most recent book, “Wealth, Power, and the Crisis of Laissez-Faire Capitalism” (Palgrave MacMillan, 2011), traces America’s rise to global supremacy and examines how free-market ideology and the “establishment” networks exemplified by Wall Street and the Council for Foreign Relations combined to lead the United States to the political and economic crises faced at the dawn of the 21st century.
Gibson also has published numerous journal articles and other articles that explore these topics, as well as the hospice movement and the rise of organized opposition to nuclear energy. He also was a frequent panelist discussing the relationship between money and power.
Prior to coming to Pitt-Greensburg, Gibson taught at Middlebury College, Oberlin College, and the University of Delaware. He also was an instructor in the Department of Labor Studies at Pennsylvania State University where he taught a course on labor and the economy for the United Steelworkers of America Union Leadership Academy in Wilmington, DE. Gibson earned his BA in sociology/social welfare from West Chester State College and his MA and PhD in sociology from the University of Delaware. He also served four years in the U.S. Air Force.

In this Darwinian narrative, the chosen people have been weakened by political parties, social classes, inassimilable minorities, spoiled rentiers, and rationalist thinkers who lack the necessary sense of community. Each of the philosophic principles essential to the rise of Nazism in Germany has a counterpart in present-day America.
Is the freest country on earth moving toward totalitarian dictatorship?
What were the factors that enabled the Nazis to seize power in pre-war
Germany? Do those same conditions exist in America today?
These are the questions raised — and answered, with frightening clarity — by Leonard Peikoff, Ayn Rand’s intellectual heir, in his powerful book The Ominous Parallels.
“We are drifting to the future, not moving purposefully,” Peikoff warns. “But we are drifting as Germany moved, in the same direction, for the same kind of reason.”
Some of the “ominous parallels” between pre-Hitler Germany and the United States that Peikoff identifies are:
- Liberals who demand public control over the use and disposal of private property — social security, more taxes, more government control over the energy industry, medicine, broadcasting, etc.
- Conservatives who demand government control over our intellectual and moral life — prayer in the schools, literary censorship, government intervention in the teaching of biology, the anti-abortion movement, etc.
- Political parties devoid of principles or direction and moved at random by pressure groups, each demanding still more controls.
- A “progressive,” anti-intellectual educational system that, from kindergarten to graduate school, creates students who can’t read or write — students brainwashed into the feeling that their minds are helpless and they must adapt to “society,” that there is no absolute truth and that morality is whatever society says it is.
- A student radical movement (from the 1960’s through the violent anti-nukers and ecology fanatics of today) who are, Peikoff maintains, the “pre-Hitler youth movement resurrected.” The radicals are nature worshippers who attack the middle class, science, technology, and business.
- The rise of defiant old-world racial hatreds disguised as “ethnic-identity” movements and “affirmative action.”
- A pervasive atmosphere of decadence, moral bankruptcy, and nihilist art accompanied by the rise of escapist mystic cults of every kind — astrology, “alternative medicine,” Orientalists, extrasensory perception, etc.
In an introduction to Peikoff’s book, Ayn Rand describes The Ominous Parallels as, “the first book by an Objectivist philosopher other than myself” and goes on to say that, “If you do not wish to be a victim of today’s philosophical bankruptcy, I recommend The Ominous Parallels as protection and ammunition. It will protect you from supporting, unwittingly, the ideas that are destroying you and the world.”

Sean Stone has grown up in the film-world, having acted since childhood in his father Oliver Stone’s films, including The Doors, JFK, Natural Born Killers, and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, before becoming a director in his own right with Greystone Park. The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg has announced the retirement of Donald E. Gibson, PhD, professor of Sociology. Gibson’s career spanned more than 30 years and is highlighted by his dedication to making students aware of the importance of an informed citizenship by exploring power, both social and economic, and its effect on US economic problems.
Gibson, a resident of Greensburg, started teaching at Pitt-Greensburg in 1981 as an assistant professor of Sociology. He advanced to associate professor in 1987, and then full professor in 1997. He served as chairperson of the Behavioral Sciences Division from 2003 through 2005. Active with the American Democracy Project, a multi-campus initiative that focused on higher education’s role in preparing the next generation of informed, engaged citizens for our democracy, he also played a part in developing Pitt-Greensburg’s course on American society.
“A devoted teacher and scholar, Dr. Gibson’s scholarship in an impressively wide range of important social areas—including implications of the development of the hospice movement, changes in the economy and shifts in social values, mass media, and environmentalism—demonstrated to his students the power of research to inform decisions on important policy questions,” said Sharon P. Smith, PhD, president of Pitt-Greensburg.
Gibson’s teaching areas included technology and social change, medical sociology, mass media, white collar crime, and American society. His research areas ranged from mass media, and the President’s Commission on the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy, to the changes in the US economy since the 1960s and the relationship of these changes to shifts in social values and public policy.
A prolific writer, his first book was published in 1994, “Battling Wall Street: The Kennedy Presidency” (reissued by Progressive Press, 2014), which challenges conventional wisdom and asserts that Kennedy was always on the side of economic, political, and social progress. Gibson also authored “The Kennedy Assassination Cover-up” (Kroshka/NOVA Science Publishers 1999), described as “an effectively researched and probing analysis of America’s most important solved murder.” One reviewer credits Gibson with writing three of the most important books available on the politics of modern times, listing Gibson’s third book “Environmentalism: Ideology and Power” (NOVA Science Publishers, 2002) with the first two Kennedy books.
A fourth book, “Communication, Power and Media” (NOVA Science Publishers, 2004) explores how the media has been used to control and manipulate people rather than as a means to inform and inspire people. His most recent book, “Wealth, Power, and the Crisis of Laissez-Faire Capitalism” (Palgrave MacMillan, 2011), traces America’s rise to global supremacy and examines how free-market ideology and the “establishment” networks exemplified by Wall Street and the Council for Foreign Relations combined to lead the United States to the political and economic crises faced at the dawn of the 21st century.
Gibson also has published numerous journal articles and other articles that explore these topics, as well as the hospice movement and the rise of organized opposition to nuclear energy. He also was a frequent panelist discussing the relationship between money and power.
Prior to coming to Pitt-Greensburg, Gibson taught at Middlebury College, Oberlin College, and the University of Delaware. Rules For Radicals
Themes
Rules for Radicals has various themes. Among them is his use of symbol construction to strengthen the unity within an organization.[3] He would draw on loyalty to a particular church or religious affiliation to create a structured organization with which to operate. The reason being that symbols by which communities could identify themselves created structured organizations that were easier to mobilize in implementing direct action. Once the community was united behind a common symbol, Alinsky would find a common enemy for the community to be united against.
The use of common enemy against a community was another theme of Rules for Radicals, with nonviolent conflict as a uniting element in communities.[6]
Alinsky would find an external antagonist to turn into a “common enemy” for the community within which he was operating. Often, this would be a local politician or agency that had some involvement with activity concerning the community. Once the enemy was established, the community would come together in opposition of it. This management of conflict heightened awareness within the community as to the similarities its members shared as well as what differentiated them from those outside of their organization.[3] The use of conflict also allowed for the goal of the group to be clearly defined. With an established external antagonist, the community’s goal would be to defeat that enemy.[3]
Symbol construction helped to promote structured organization, which allowed for nonviolent conflict through another element in Alinsky’s teaching, direct action. Direct action created conflict situations that further established the unity of the community and promoted the accomplishment of achieving the community’s goal of defeating their common enemy.[2] It also brought issues the community was battling to the public eye. Alinsky encouraged over-the-top public demonstrations throughout Rules for Radicals that could not be ignored, and these tactics enabled his organization to progress their goals faster than through normal bureaucratic processes.[3]
Lastly, the main theme throughout Rules for Radicals and Alinsky’s work was empowerment of the poor.[5] Alinsky used symbol construction and nonviolent conflict to create a structured organization with a clearly defined goal that could take direct action against a common enemy. At this point, Alinsky would withdraw from the organization to allow their progress to be powered by the community itself.[3] This empowered the organizations to create change.[2]
The Rules
- “Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have.” Power is derived from 2 main sources – money and people. “Have-Nots” must build power from flesh and blood.
- “Never go outside the expertise of your people.” It results in confusion, fear and retreat. Feeling secure adds to the backbone of anyone.
- “Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy.” Look for ways to increase insecurity, anxiety and uncertainty.
- “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.” If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, send 30,000 letters. You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules.
- “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.
- “A good tactic is one your people enjoy.” They’ll keep doing it without urging and come back to do more. They’re doing their thing, and will even suggest better ones.
- “A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.” Don’t become old news.
- “Keep the pressure on. Never let up.” Keep trying new things to keep the opposition off balance. As the opposition masters one approach, hit them from the flank with something new.
- “The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.” Imagination and ego can dream up many more consequences than any activist.
- “The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition.” It is this unceasing pressure that results in the reactions from the opposition that are essential for the success of the campaign.
- “If you push a negative hard enough, it will push through and become a positive.” Violence from the other side can win the public to your side because the public sympathizes with the underdog.
- “The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.” Never let the enemy score points because you’re caught without a solution to the problem.
- “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.

This book contains physical evidence, not theories or speculation, but physical evidence that is overwhelming and conclusive as to what happened. But for the record, I do not believe that our government is responsible for executing the events of 9/11/01; nor do I believe that our government is not responsible for executing the events of 9/11/01.
This is not a case of belief. This is a
crime that should be solved by a forensic study of the evidence. Before
it can be determined who did it, it must first be determined what was
done and how it was done.
The order of crime solving is to determine
1) WHAT happened, then
2) HOW it happened (e.g., what weapon), then
3) WHO did it. And only then can we address
4) WHY they did it (i.e. motive).
Let us remember what is required to (legally) convict someone of a crime. You cannot convict someone of a crime based on belief. You cannot convict someone of a crime if you don’t even know what crime to charge them with. If you accuse someone of murder using a gun, you’d better be sure the body has a bullet hole in it. And yet before noon on 9/11/01, we were told who did it, how they did it, and why they did it (they hate us for our freedoms); before any investigation had been conducted to determine what had even been done.
Many people have speculated as to who committed the crimes of 9/11 and/or how they did so. But without addressing what happened, speculation of this kind is nothing more than conspiracy theory, a phrase that also describes the 19 bad guys with box cutters story we were given before noon on 9/11/01.
My own research is not speculation. It is a forensics investigation of what happened to the WTC complex on 9/11/01. I don’t address who did it, nor am I concerned with that question right now. Before issues of that kind can be addressed, we must first determine what happened.
By definition, research that is purely empirical cannot be about and has nothing to do with conspiracy theory of any kind. The fact that others (in the mainstream media, the alternative media, and the so-called 9/11 truth movement) promote various theories about 9/11 is irrelevant to my research. On the other hand, to determine what happened, we must address all of the available evidence.
Anyone declaring who did what or how they did it before they have determined what was done is merely promoting either speculation or propaganda. The popular chant, “9/11 was an inside job,” is, scientifically speaking, no different from the chant that “19 bad guys with box cutters did it.” Neither one is the result of a scientific investigation supported by evidence that would be admissible in court. Neither identifies what crime was committed or how it was committed.
What is presented in this book is not a theory and it is not speculation. It is evidence. It is the body of empirical evidence that must be explained in order to determine what happened.

passions” that shape fascist action than to a consistent and fully
articulated philosophy. At bottom is a passionate nationalism. Allied to
it is a conspiratorial and Manichean view of history as a battle
between the good and evil camps, between the pure and the corrupt, in
which one’s own community or nation has been the victim. In this
Darwinian narrative, the chosen people have been weakened by political
parties, social classes, inassimilable minorities, spoiled rentiers, and
rationalist thinkers who lack the necessary sense of community. These
“mobilizing passions,” mostly taken for granted and not always overtly
argued as intellectual propositions, form the emotional lava that set
fascism’s foundations

would, of course, have little to do with the original European models.
They would have to be as familiar and reassuring to loyal Americans as
the language and symbols of the original fascisms were familiar and
reassuring to many Italians and Germans, as Orwell suggested. Hitler and

citizens. No swastikas in an American fascism, but Stars and Stripes (or

of fascism in themselves, of course, but an American fascism would
transform them into obligatory litmus tests for detecting the internal
enemy.

Each of the philosophic principles essential to the rise of Nazism in Germany has a counterpart in present-day America.
Is the freest country on earth moving toward totalitarian dictatorship?
What were the factors that enabled the Nazis to seize power in pre-war
Germany? Do those same conditions exist in America today?
These are the questions raised — and answered, with frightening
clarity — by Leonard Peikoff, Ayn Rand’s intellectual heir, in his
powerful book The Ominous Parallels.
“We
are drifting to the future, not moving purposefully,” Peikoff warns.
“But we are drifting as Germany moved, in the same direction, for the
same kind of reason.”
Some of the “ominous parallels” between pre-Hitler Germany and the United States that Peikoff identifies are:
- Liberals who demand public control over the use and disposal of
private property — social security, more taxes, more government control
over the energy industry, medicine, broadcasting, etc. - Conservatives who demand government control over our intellectual
and moral life — prayer in the schools, literary censorship, government
intervention in the teaching of biology, the anti-abortion movement,
etc. - Political parties devoid of principles or direction and moved at random by pressure groups, each demanding still more controls.
- A “progressive,” anti-intellectual educational system that, from
kindergarten to graduate school, creates students who can’t read or
write — students brainwashed into the feeling that their minds are
helpless and they must adapt to “society,” that there is no absolute
truth and that morality is whatever society says it is. - A student radical movement (from the 1960’s through the violent
anti-nukers and ecology fanatics of today) who are, Peikoff maintains,
the “pre-Hitler youth movement resurrected.” The radicals are nature
worshippers who attack the middle class, science, technology, and
business. - The rise of defiant old-world racial hatreds disguised as “ethnic-identity” movements and “affirmative action.”
- A pervasive atmosphere of decadence, moral bankruptcy, and nihilist
art accompanied by the rise of escapist mystic cults of every kind —
astrology, “alternative medicine,” Orientalists, extrasensory
perception, etc.
In an introduction to Peikoff’s book, Ayn Rand describes The Ominous Parallels
as, “the first book by an Objectivist philosopher other than myself”
and goes on to say that, “If you do not wish to be a victim of today’s
philosophical bankruptcy, I recommend The Ominous Parallels as
protection and ammunition. It will protect you from supporting,
unwittingly, the ideas that are destroying you and the world.”
In brilliantly reasoned prose, Peikoff argues that the deepest roots
of German Nazism lie not in existential crises, but in ideas — not in
Germany’s military defeat in World War I or the economic disasters of
the Weimar Republic that followed, but in the philosophy that dominated
pre-Nazi Germany. Although it was mediated by crises, Peikoff
demonstrates that German Nazism was the inevitable climax of a
centuries-long philosophic development, preaching three fundamental
ideas: the worship of unreason, the demand for self-sacrifice and the
elevation of society or the state above the individual.
“These ideas,” Peikoff says, “are the essence of Nazism and they are
exactly what our leading universities are now spreading throughout this
country. This is the basic cause of all the other parallels.”
